Several theatre students performed at the New Mexico State Thespian Festival and One-Act Competition in Las Cruces.
Earning a superior ranking in their thespian individual event categories and qualifying for the international festival:
- Ainara Vecchia ’24 in Acting – Monologues. Ainara also performed in the awards showcase because she tied for the highest score at state.
- Nate Shay ’24 in Lighting Design and highest-scoring submission in the Lighting Design category
- Sophia Wrobel ’24 in Playwriting and the highest-scoring submission in Playwriting with a perfect score
- Addie Nayback ’25 in Musical Theatre – Solo Musical and tied for a top position
- Ari Rosner-Salazar ’25, Sienna Gilbert ’25, Hayden Wagner ’27, Jamie Lujan ’27, and Joseph Garcia ’27 all received commendable scores.
- Augi Steele ’25 was voted onto the New Mexico Thespian Student Board as a 2023-24 State Thespian Officer, one of eight.
In the NMAA One-Act competition in our division, Sparta, the students remounted last year’s one-act play “Stressed,” directed by Jordan Kropka.
- Nate Shay ’24 and Hayden Wagner ’27: 2nd place for Lighting and Sound
- Ainara Vecchia ’24, Sienna Gilbert ’25, and Joseph Garcia ’27: 2nd place for Backstage Crew
- Ari Rosner-Salazar ’25: 3rd place for Stage Management
- “Stressed”: 3rd place overall, including the direction by Jordan Kropka and the ensemble work of Zara Dolan, Addie Nayback, Augi Steele, and Diego Chavez
This event was the all-state event for the year hosted by the New Mexico chapter of the International Thespian Society and NMAA.
